Howell Singing Declared Finest Harp Event in Wiregrass

Friends of C F Howell of Dothan held an all day Sacred Harp singing at the Houston County courthouse honoring him. The gathering, described as among the largest and most successful, featured officers appointed by Howell and an extensive list of lesson leaders and participants from Dothan and surrounding areas.

Wild Life Trapper Sought for Survey Work

W A McCullough head of the focal branch of State EchoParasite survey seeks a new trapper. Bill Owens is no longer with the department. Eighty traps for wild game including foxes wildcats and possums are set along the Chattahoochee and Choctawhatchee rivers as McCullough oversees the survey.

Car strike kills passenger on Lower Wetumpka road

Lonzo Odom, 60, ice plant operator, was killed when his car struck a parked hay truck on the Lower Wetumpka road in Montgomery. C. T. Stephens and his son Clifton were injured but released after first aid. Police say Stephens failed to see the truck.

Defendants Run Afoul Difficulties in Court

In Houston county court yesterday two judges presiding faced a tough day. Six defendants were found guilty with fines, sentences and suspended terms. Judge H K Martin partially presided before attending a funeral. Keener Baxley served as acting judge. Doughtie faced a common carrier act charge and paid 5 dollars plus costs. Willie Mack Bryant was fined the minimum 100 dollars with costs for drunken driving. Roy Medley received a six month suspended sentence for petty larceny. Lee Skipper drew a 25 dollar fine and 60 day sentence, appealed. Welsh Morris got a 30 day sentence for assault and battery with a weapon. Ewell Buford received a six month suspended sentence for assault and battery.
