Longtime Dothan civic leader and lawyer dies at 74

G H Farmer Sr a pioneer Dothan citizen and prominent attorney died at his home after injuries from an auto crash near Bonaventure. He guided Dothan progress building water works streets courthouse and churches and led the First Baptist church expansion. His 41 years in Dothan included tenures with Espy and Farmer then Farmer Merrill and Farmer. He declined a statewide governor bid in 1910 but remained active in civic affairs and church. He was born August 1858 in Shorterville Henry County Alabama and moved to Dothan in 1891.

Record crowd on hand for big Dothan Lanier clash

Before one of the era’s largest football crowds in Dothan, the Tigers of Dothan High met Sidney Lanier of Montgomery on a rain soaked field at Willie Grass Memorial Stadium. Weather hindered play but 1100 rooters arrived on a special Montgomery train plus hundreds by car as crowds filled the stands.

Alabama will be represented by Finness Castleberry and Miss Minna Peebles Johnson in the Atwater Kent auditions from Nov 10 11. County officers jailed two Negroes late yesterday on charges of burglarizing homes of white residents and a third on larceny. Paul Whites was accused of burglarizing the home of F. G. Williamson near Cottonwood. Janie Frank Gilmore faced burglary charges at the home of WoT.
