Navy chaplain Lieut. Stringfellow, 27, son of Mrs. Tose Stringfellow of 105 Norena Street, preached at a Baptist service on Okinawa during heavy ground fighting. A Howard College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary graduate, he served with the First Maine Division at Peleliu and has two brothers in the armed forces. Ensign Thomas J. Willis, son of Mrs. Gussie J. Willis of Headland, already in the Navy V-12 program, was noted among young officers serving in the Pacific. Willis entered Navy service in 1943 and rose from midshipman training to ensign in 1945.

Navy Chief Dean Killed In Action
Navy Chief Dean, brother of Mrs Norman Spoon of Dothan and son of Mr and Mrs W L Dean of Ozark, was killed in action in the Pacific. Co Pilot Maxwell S McLeod Promoted to Technical Sergeant
Staff Sergeant Maxwell S McLeod of Slocomb son of Mr and Mrs J A McLeod has been promoted to Technical Sergeant. He serves as co pilot for Major General Charles P Hail commander of the 11th Corps aboard the new C45 aircraft, after earning the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters as an engineer gunner on a B25. He took part in landings at Cape Gloucester Hollandia Aitape Wakde Island and helped form the 11th Corps in May 1944 following eight months of Pacific bombing and strafing. Previously he worked at Napier Field and entered service in May 1942.
