Banks of State Affected by Court Ruling on Capital Stock Tax

A Dothan National Bank suit against Houston County tax collector seeks to recover taxes paid on capital stock and to stop future taxation. If successful, about $30,000 from five years could be recovered and past two years’ delinquent taxes may be erased. The case may affect all federally chartered banks in Alabama.

Drifting Goose Leads Tiny Sioux Band in Dakota Reserve

In Pierre South Dakota Drifting Goose with ten followers rejected the 1868 treaty and created a small Sioux reservation the smallest in the Dakotas. He and his band briefly held federal recognition for a year and forced President Hayes to restore three townships to public domain in 1850 before fading as settlers arrived. A new free bridge will open July 2 at St Joseph Missouri linking Missouri and Kansas.

Grandson of M. Tatum Struck by Truck in Troy

Albert Williams Jr., 7, grandson of Mr and Mrs M Tatum of Dothan, was struck by a lumber truck in Troy Wednesday afternoon. He survived with a slight skull fracture and is listed in serious but improving condition by hospital authorities.
