Harting Credited With Second Win On Giant Mound

Harting pitched eight hits and three strikeouts to back the New York Giants to a 1-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Hartung also added a single as the Giants totaled 15 hits to improve on their western road trip. The Cubs beat the Phillies 3-2 in Chicago as Lonnie Frey delivered a bases loaded hit. Greenberg's homer boosted the Braves past the Pirates for a 4-3 win at Forbes Field. The Red Sox beat the Tigers 8-3 while the Indians edged the Yankees 4-2 to narrow the gap in the American League pennant chase. Ed Robins doubled for the Browns in a 11-1 rout of the Athletics in Philadelphia. The White Sox toppled the Senators 7-4 under the lights in Washington as rain postponed Brooklyn vs St. Louis.

National Open draws large entry list near record

The 1947 National Open entry list reaches 1302 golfers for the June 2 qualifying round and June 12-14 championship at St. Louis Country Club. Enterprise Takes Series From Greenies In Two Straight
