Mrs. M. D. Hornsby Dies During Visit to Sister

Mrs. Mattie Hornsby wife of the late M. D. Hornsby of Dothan died Friday after months of illness while visiting sister Mrs. Georgia Pitts in Tallassee. Funeral services were held in Tallassee with Rev. S. R. Twitty officiating and burial followed there. Survived by son Clarence and three stepchildren J. E. Hornsby C. D. Hornsby and R. L. Cox all of Dothan. She was longtime member of Foster Street Methodist Church and Woman's Missionary Society.

Newton Woman Maggie Davis Dies in Dothan Hospital

Maggie Davis 42 of Newton Route 2 died in a Dothan area hospital Sunday after a brief illness. She is survived by husband Wilburn Davis four children Johnnie Harber Collie Pauline four sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held at Piney Grove Church yesterday morning at 10 with Rev. Jeter Baldwin officiating Fellows & Forrester in charge.

Dothan Youth James Byrd Pilcher Heads for Nanking

James Byrd Pilcher, newly named vice consul to Nanking China, departs this afternoon for his foreign post. A Dothan native, he is the second local to receive such an appointment after Robert Brown to Bagdad. Pilcher holds a B S and M S from Auburn, studied in Washington, D C, and will visit the Grand Canyon, Mexico, Honolulu and Tokyo en route.

Boy of 13 Shot and Killed in Friendly Tussle

A Geneva county boy Lynn Burkett, 18, was shot and killed near Florala during a friendly tussle with Pvt. James E. Ingram of the Alabama National Guard on patrol duty.
