Woman Rests After Long Ambulance Trip in Winston-Salem
Mrs Donald B. Trivutte, 51, rested after a long ambulance ride from Las Vegas to Winston-Salem with her husband. She broke a hip in Las Vegas en route home from California motor trip. An impending rail strike prevented train return, so they chartered the ambulance for comfort. Park Wehr and Dick Walters, Las Vegas drivers, also planned to resume westward travel today.

Hard Coal Operators Receive 60 Day End of UMW Contract Notice
John T. Lewis issued a 60 day notice to hard coal operators signaling intent to end the United Mine Workers contract covering anthracite miners. He proposed a new contract by July 10 with wage conferences starting May 20 and noted termination rights under the Taft Hartley act. The move contrasts with ongoing soft coal talks and the broader coal industry tensions in 1946.
