Fall Leaves Pen After Nine Months In Custody
Albert B. Fall, once interior secretary, is free after serving nine months and nineteen days of a one year and a day sentence for taking a bribe from Edward Doheny. He left the New Mexico state penitentiary reclining in a limousine ambulance, en route to El Paso with family and halted overnight at Tres Rios. He was described as cheerful, though ill, with doctors reporting no mental decline. The release followed a dispute over whether the full term had been served after a court notice removing a pay fine clause. The $100,000 fine remains a judgment, likely uncollectible given Fall’s lack of funds and a mortgage foreclosure on his Three Rivers Ranch by Doheny.
