A head on collision at Newton late Tuesday left two injured. Freda Rodenbeck Jr., 55, of Birmingham, suffered head lacerations and possible rib fractures and remained in Dothan hospital. J C Adkinson, truck driver for Dothan Ice Cream Co., received first aid and was treated. A Negro riding in the truck was unharmed. The crash occurred as Rodenbeck swerved to avoid two women near the roadway while en route to Birmingham.

Clarence Cason 87 head of the journalism department at the University of Alabama was found dead at his desk with an automatic pistol nearby last midnight. The coroner returned no verdict of suicide after an investigation. Mrs. Cason found the locked office door in the Alabama Union Building. Cason had been despondent due to ill health. University president Dr. George T. Denny said no other cause was known. Cason recently completed a book to be released Saturday. He had led the department for seven years and was well known in the state. He is survived by Mrs. Cason and one child.
