Meaning Of New OPS Rule Affects Industry By James Marlow
Washington AP explains an Office of Price Stabilization order issued to govern when industries may raise prices. It ties permitted increases to industry wide profits relative to the 1946-49 baseline, allowing boosts only if the industry average profits fall 11 to 13 percent below the prior period. Individual firms can seek hardship relief, but OPS bases decisions on average industry profits rather than single firm fortunes.
