Boy Burns Aide Saved By Fireman In Toy Rag Blast

Dale Richey suffered severe burns after a gasoline soaked rag was tossed on a bonfire causing an explosion that left him as a human torch. A passing city fireman smothered the flames with a sweater saving his chest and lungs while his friend endured more serious injuries leading to amputations. The Richeys welcomed a new baby on May 1 as Dale faces two years of skin surgery and learning to walk on artificial legs with his father praising his and his mother’s courage.

County Agents Fly to Fat Stock Show in Birmingham

Assistant County Agent Clark Rudder and William A. Womack of Ashford flew by private plane to Birmingham to attend a fat stock show. They are expected to return to Dothan Thursday night, according to County Agent C. M. Ling.

Rasberry Robinson Dies in Gordon Route 1

Funeral services for Rasberry Robinson seventy four of Gordon Route One will be at 11 a m tomorrow at Hickory Grove Church with Rev Daniel Pelt officiating. Burial follows in the church cemetery. Survived by widow Frances Ada Robinson two daughters Mrs C E Kirksey and Mrs M D Long a son A G Robinson eleven grandchildren two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Masonic services at grave side.

Lovern Named Houston County Rep to State Education Panel

Clyde Lovern named to represent Houston County on the State Citizens Committee on Education and will chair the county group. Solomon Baxter, county superintendent, said the county committee will include lay members from PTAs and other citizens groups to inform on local education needs and report to state committee meetings. Milton H. Fies is state chairman.

Equipment Arrives For Canning Plant In Houston County

Equipment for Houston County's canning plant arrived and is being installed at the Ashford farm market building. John C. Ingram, president of the Houston County Producers Association, said the plant will mainly can peas and operate when farmers are ready to market their peas in June.

Marshall to press policy as Congress blocks aid bills

Marshall’s afternoon press conference follows government programs facing congressional hurdles. The Greek Turkish aid bill, once aimed at a March 31 deadline, endures restrictive House amendments.
