Jeanie Pearl Lewis, daughter of Mr and Mrs G C Lewis, completes her basic training at the Naval Training School for WAVES on the campus of Iowa State Teachers College. The program marks a shift to yeoman training, with graduates remaining in Iowa for further study before serving at sea and becoming eligible for petty officer ratings.
Annual musical contest for junior musicians in Enterprise and Dothan will close National Music Week in Dothan on Saturday May 8. Contestants return to the auditorium for finals after 3 30 pm with judges selecting one from each class. Juniors earning superior excellent or good ratings will be commended for pledging to make America truly musical.

In Laramie Wyoming the University of Wyoming doubles down on the 1942 Victory garden contest by quadrupling awards. Four scholarships will be awarded to the top four coed gardeners after a course in gardening and agriculture was offered to stimulate home food production.

Mrs Shelley Helms and fellow members hosted Circle One of the Woman's Society of Christian Service at the Helms home in Hartford on Monday afternoon. President Mrs Will Daughtry led the meeting. Mrs J F Collins led the program on Child Labor Safeguards Wartime, School versus Wages of Sixteen, and Protecting the Rights of Childhood. The poem The Teacher by Leslie Pinckney Hill closed the program. Salad and tea were served to the attendees, including Mrs J W Hatcher, Lena Parker, W O Daughtry, G P Cantrell, Clayton Brannon, Jess Riley, John Henry Childs, Randolph Howell, T W Woodham, Harvey Windham, Larkin, Corbitt, Will Metcalf, Ceilina.
Mrs John J Flowers reviewed Louis Bromfield novel Mrs Parkington at yesterdays Round Table Study Club meeting hosted by Mrs W C Faulkner at West Mein Street. Attending members and guests enjoyed spring flower decor and a salad course after business and book talk.
Mrs James Avery and Mrs Le V McGee spoke at the Lafayette Street Methodist monthly meeting. Mrs Avery read Child Labor Safeguarded in War times while Mrs McGee discussed School Against War at Sixteen. The program featured a duet by Mrs Fred O'Brien and a devotional song by Mrs W W Patterson. A brief business session followed with a large membership turnout.
The eleventh annual Garden Club of Alabama convention will be held May 12 13 14 at Alabama College Montevallo with Mrs ROOF Woods presiding An opening registration Wednesday May 12 at Reynolds Hall includes a supper at 6 00 pm and an executive board meeting The morning session May 13 features invocations welcome address by Mrs J H McCoy and remarks by state president RK Woods The program includes the College Glee Club and talks on education in conservation plus regional reports and awards Registration is 15 00 covers lunch and program costs, with room and meal reservations through the college and checks payable to Mrs James Kenan, treasurer
A large Reeves family reunion was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. N. Reeves in Midland City route three. Numerous relatives from Greenvale Hartford Headland Biccomb Graanville Daleville and Birmingham attended, including J R Robinson Estelle Robinson Dow Robinson and many others. Captain and Mrs. John Fletcher and children planned a visit from Talladega to see Mrs. Fletcher's parents Judge and Mrs. O.S. Laws.
The Pothan Garden Club met at the Library with Mrs. 3H Wright presiding. Officers spoke on routine business and the treasurer noted 710000 war bonds purchased and 500 funds donated to the Garden Club of Alabama ambulance fund. Mrs. John Hamilton was elected vice president, replacing Mrs. C. Lewis who resigned. A.
