UN to Move Forward on World Peace Center in New Building

A $1,700,000 steel contract with American Bridge Company was signed by Byron Price for the United Nations headquarters at Flushing Meadows. The 24,000 ton framework will rise as the Secretariat’s tower and the adjacent four story structure for the Security and Economic and Social Councils near completion. The General Assembly building will crown the site along the river between 43rd and 47th Streets, housing 2,500 people and 300,000 square feet of space. UN membership sits at 89 and design plans include galleries for press and public, with furnishings possibly sourced abroad. The seventh Assembly session is slated to convene next September.
