In Harwichport Massachusetts on May 3 a gang including a large Negro and white men abducted Margaret Peggy McMath from her grammar school after a telephone ruse. A father linked to Detroit firms reportedly favored ransom but offered no police interference.

No Recruits Sent From Dothan Station This Week

Dothan recruiting station announced no Civilian Conservation Corps enlistments this week pending orders. Last week about 76 men were sent in three quotas, the final batch of 20 men arriving Saturday. Houston county youths did not join the first quota. Enlistments expected to resume next week once the allotment for the section is clarified.

Lining for Blankets Sought to Fund Quilt Exhibition

Houston county welfare officials plan a quilt exhibition to raise money for linings needed by R F C sewing room workers. Tickets will fund linings so 75 to 100 blankets can be finished. The event runs Friday afternoon from 2 to 5 in the sewing room on East Mall Street opposite the Martin Hotel.

City to Redeem Payroll Warrants Tomorrow at Clerk’s Office

City officials announced warrants issued in February to meet payrolls will be redeemed tomorrow at the city clerk’s office for full value plus 6 percent interest. Total for February warrants rises to over 4700 dollars with March warrants to bear interest until called next month. Light and water warrants will also be valid for redemption tomorrow backed by a 21500 dollar loan approved at the Monday meeting.

Hartford Woman Dies Here Today

Mrs J L Tindeft 34 of Hartford route two died in a Dothan hospital from peritonitis at 9 30 AM after a brief illness.
