AP reports John L Mapred announces approval of the wage pact for anthracite workers. An average 16 cent daily raise is planned to offset higher costs for operators while harsh negotiations continue on postwar coal contracts and retroactive pay. The War Labor Board approves most terms as soft coal operators sign extensions.
The Scarborough city commission declared the office of City Clerk vacant due to ill health of LP Scarborough. J L Vaughn was appointed auditor-treasurer to fill the post temporarily. The commission offered a proposal to pay Scarborough through May in recognition of his many years of service.
