Three Candidates Qualify for County Offices Today

Three candidates filed qualification affidavits with Probate Judge Harry R. Martin today to enter the August primary race for Houston County offices. L. Toler, a Pansy community merchant and former Houston County teacher, seeks tax assessor, joining E. G. Collins who qualified in February. Dr. M. D. Hicks of Cottonwood seeks the county school board vacancy, and C. C. McArthur qualified for re election to the Board of Revenue. Analysts expect several more filings before tonight’s deadline.

Penn Campus clashes lead to student arrests and police action

Police clashed with university students during Ivy Week events at the University of Pennsylvania causing upwards of 300 arrests.
