Mail Clerk Shoots Self Before Gallery Crowd

In Long Beach California on March 28 37 year old mail clerk Joseph A Recker of the USS Vestal fired four rifles at a shooting gallery and then a fifth, killing himself after declaring he wanted to show his skill. Council Keeps Four Year Term Despite Vote Result

City councilmembers at a special meeting announced they were elected to complete their four year term after canvassing last Friday’s election. 686 votes opposed adoption of the commission form and 512 supported it, with the commission form not adopted.
