Gil ford Clobridge, 33, formerly of Staten Island, N Y, was arrested for sending an extortion letter to Col Charlies A Lindbergh at Hopewell N J demanding 50000. He was also charged with mailing a pint of liquor to Federal Judge Halstead Ritter with a note signed New and with the wife’s nickname. The letter was uncovered by Post Office Inspector Edgar O Jones and traced to Clobridge via a West Brighton Staten Island address. He said the scheme was to get even with his wife and relatives and to use his wife’s nickname on the liquor package. He was bound over to a federal grand jury on 10000 bond.
