Sweet Potatoes Ahead of Season on Local Farm Exhibit

H L Roling of Dothan route five displayed sweet potatoes raised early from last fall plantings. The large frying sized tubers came after mild Christmas growth and a recent freeze, yielding about five bushels from a small patch. Beans cabbage Irish potatoes and early corn suffered, while unsprouted corn remained unharmed.

Reid Ward Injured in Dothan Automobile Crash

Reid Ward of Dothan is recovering after an Enterprise highway crash near Dothan on Monday. Hospital attendants say his condition is not serious and he suffered chest injuries, bruises, lacerations, and the loss of a tooth.

Perjury Charges In Seed Loan Case Against County Agent

County Agent J Henry Witherington and Ashford planter C C McArthur face $5,000 bonds after arrest on perjury charges connected to the seed loan conspiracy trial. Testimony from Thomas L. Hutchings and Katie Cain placed them near Columbus in September 1931. A preliminary hearing before U S Commissioner Beatty Whiddon led to Witherington being bound over to a grand jury. McArthur waived preliminaries. Both men deny falsifying testimony claiming they were not in Columbus on the relevant dates.

Police Believe Woman Held for Ransom in Nebraska

Miss Laurel Morrison a 30 year old Aurora Nebraska beauty parlor operator is missing police think she has been kidnapped for a $1000 ransom. A ransom note mailed to Aurora yesterday and sent to her care at general delivery prompted a search with officers stationed at the post office awaiting the sender.

50 Men Seek Work as 20 Sent Home Without Jobs or Funds

More than 50 men applied at the employment agency yesterday but 20 were sent home with no jobs or funds. The remaining workers chop wood for five cents an hour paid in groceries, not cash. Groceries fund purchases, cords of wood sell for four dollars, and a garden project covers over five acres of produce to relieve hunger while funds run low. The unemployment relief committee reports a lack of funds and aims to sell wood to add about $200 to unemployment funds if sold.

Arrangements Made For Buying Poultry Feed In This City

Poultry raisers in Houston county will buy feed from a Dothan store rather than Montgomery after a county home demonstration meeting in Dothan. Mr Kirkwood of the state farm bureau at Auburn led the discussion and Miss Ruth DeVine of Auburn spoke. The session, attended by 45 people, covered the relation of home demonstration agents to the county marketing agent.

Benefit Show Realizes 97.62 For Needy Children

Almost $100 was raised at a Strand theater moving picture show Tuesday for needy children. Welfare officials announced $97.62 will be used to buy supplies and placed in the general fund to replace March and April appropriations already spent on child care.

Governor Roosevelt Wins Georgia Delegates in Primary

Governor Franklin D Roosevelt swept Georgia's 23 convention votes in the Democratic presidential preference primary. He led Judge G W H Howard of Atlanta who backed Speaker John Garner. Roosevelt had a roughly 10 to 1 plurality and about 41 percent of county unit votes counted with five counties still unreported.

Fire damages house on acid pliant hill early today

A negro house on the acid pliant hill was badly damaged by fire early today. The fire occurred at 3 30 a m and gained headway before the fire department arrived. The rear of the dwelling was virtually ruined by the blaze. Origin of the fire was undetermined.
