The Swedish botanist Linnaeus devised a flower clock using flowers that close their petals at the same hour daily. Different flowers were used to mark each hour, revealing a natural timekeeping idea from historical science.

Four Negro WACs were sentenced to one year at hard labor and dishonorable discharge after a court martial at Fort Devens. They alleged discrimination when ordered to perform menial tasks at Lovell General Hospital. Testimonies cited Col Walter Crandall's remarks, saying Negro WACs were to do the dirty work, while white WACs avoided similar duties. The trial included two Negro officers and two white officers.
