Alabamians In Washington By Wilbur Jennings
Washington AP Senator Hill and Saturday the Public Health Service approved 1 130 hospital projects under HLS Hospital Construct. This boost follows amendments accepted four months ago, doubling federal funds for hospital construction and for federal aid for each Alabama project. Five Alabama projects have been completed and 25 more are under construction. By July 1952, Alabama will have about 90 hospitals and other facilities completed or under construction. an additional 50 projects have been scheduled for 1955 or have tentative prospects. Two thirds of the funded projects are in communities under 5,000 population. About half of the act’s projects are coming to the South. The Senate last week voted down Senator Sparkman’s broader cooperative housing proposal by a close 4 to 38, Sparkman calling the defeat due to misinformation and unfounded charges by opponents who previously fought FHA and related aid but profited from those laws. he suggested the amendment may be revived.
