Citations Issued For Delinquent Houston County Taxes

More than 2000 delinquent taxpayers in Houston County will receive citations next week to appear in Probate Court on April 11 before Judge H K Martin to show cause why their property should not be sold. The notices, prepared by the tax collector's office, include a 75 cent citation fee with 50 cents to the probate judge and 25 cents to the tax collector. Notices to non residents estates and guardians will be served by sale advertising. property will be sold if taxes remain unpaid with advertising starting in May and sale in June.

Dothan Man Injured When His Car Overturned Near Here

L. D. Ogletree of 208 South Foster Street is recovering at home after his car overturned while returning from Ashford to Dothan. He was pinned beneath the vehicle in a deep ditch and injured his ankles ribs and side. A neighbor aided in extricating him as others joined to set the car alight. He blamed blinding headlights from a passing motorist for the crash about three miles from Dothan and says the driver did not stop.

Council to Decide Monday on Pond Drainage plan

The Old Bay pond south of the city faces a drainage decision at Monday night’s regular council meeting. A health survey found the pond to be a major mosquito breeding site and officials note another north side pond also poses a menace.

Dothan Man Recalls 38 Years of Married Life in City

L A Oppert recalls marrying Georgia Granger here 38 years ago today and continuing to live in Dothan. He moved from Clayton in 1892, helped form Houston County in 1903, and helped select the county courthouse site. The couple have two sons Jamie and Louis, both local residents.

Gasoline and flour donated for relief drive in town

Thirty five gallons of gasoline were donated to the unemploy ment relief committee for Do than. The Texas Oil Company gave 10 gallons and Standard Oil Co 25. Arthur Malone contributed five barrels of flour and W E Barber made a cash gift. About 25 men went to the country to cut wood to supply heat for families in need. Wood is sold for 4 a card delivered. Rehearsal began for a kid minstrel directed by Mrs Dannelly Newton and Mrs Calvin Weich.

Jailed Here Man Taken to Florida For Chicken Theft

Sheriff Jim Lewis and Deputy Walter Davis of Marianna took Jeff Mead to Florida to face a chicken theft charge. Mead was jailed last night after Florida officers notified county deputies he was wanted on the theft count.

New Leads to Investigators in Lindbergh Kidnapping Case

Police at the Lindbergh home report two former Franklin Park servants missing after the kidnapping, now located and questioned. The couple known as Mr and Mrs Paul Thornburg prompted the Lightfoots to file a report. Newark detectives head to Idaho to question Ignace Blaustein, who claimed to drive the car involved.

Gov William H Murray of Oklahoma qualified with Secretary of State B R Gray for participation in Florida's Democratic preferential primary on June 7. Welfare officials in Dothan warned residents about a child begging racket reported in recent weeks. They described tactics where older youths solicit money on streets and from pedestrians, some claiming the need to feed siblings while others use a mule in the downtown area. Plans to Slay Heads of Union Foiled in Raid

An alleged murder plot against Labor Union officials was foiled by a police raid. Four men and a woman were arrested after the eleventh hour operation. The targets included C. E. Haury and union leaders John Possehl and Frank Langdon. Evidence came from intercepted conversations following anonymous tips. Police cited alleged discrimination in job assignments as the motive.

Registered Reserves Gathering In Dothan Postponed

The Registered Reserves of America event in Dothan was postponed to next Friday night due to the absence of Mayor Bill Gun’Jr. of Montgomery and Judge Leon McCord. About 200 local leaders are charter members. Dothan council is council 103, a large Alabama unit. Malcolm Harper of Geneva heads the Alabama council. Mayor Gunter, Judge McCord and other speakers were to appear at the city auditorium.
