Peter Manning the trotter dies at 27 in Hanover field
A memorial notice recalls the storied career of Peter Manning, a famed trotting horse once owned by William of Chicago and trained by Tommy Murphy. Born on Lib Th. farm, he rose from early trials in Milwaukee to Lexington with times around 2:06, becoming virtually unbeatable until retirement. In 1929, after a decade on the road, he found a peaceful pasture life, his quick mind returning to running as guards coaxed him to his stall.
