Demoralization scheme in Fess aid under New Deal attack
A 1934 style Washington column describes a staged Democratic set up to trap Senator James M. Fess with a sandbag tactic during a Robinson speech marking the New Deal anniversary. Democratic leaders show a calculated plan, using pressed clippings across Ohio and Indiana to rebut Republican critics, while Roosevelt sets a rule that criticism must offer a better alternative. The piece notes General Johnson letter troubles over NRA initials and an Eagle emblem, and teases continued coverage on page five.
