The Livestock Committee of the 1945 TriState Fat Stock Show will meet tomorrow at 9:38 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office to finalize prize plans and discuss awarding three trips to the International Livestock Show in Chicago. Committee chairman Richard Ramsey said tentative prizes have been chosen and the meeting will firm up award details.
Lt. Raymond F. Malo of Danville W Va piloted a B 29 over Iwo Jima’s southern airfield circling twice as visibility failed. On the third pass he touched down hard, skidded 3 000 feet, and knocked over a telephone pole with minor wing damage, exiting to cheers from Marines. Fuel lines failed earlier and would have cut engines 150 miles from home base at Tinian if not repaired on Iwo.
Number 10 reports Maj Gen Keller E Rockey's forces repelling a Japanese counterattack. Lt. Col A A Vandergrif Jr, Guadalcanal commander in 1942, was wounded in both legs by mortar fire on Feb 24 after earlier leg wounds on Saipan. Despite heavy surface bombardment and air strafing, the enemy continued shelling the southern airfield as evacuation planes moved in and out with wounded servicemen.
About 1 600 American and Brisk heavy bombers targeted Ulm and Wanteecker rail yards in Germany while Italy based heavies hit Austrian and Hungarian rail networks serving the eastern front. The Dutch coast rocket zone was bombed and strafed, railways to the area cut, and V‑bomb dumps briefly exploded. Three bombers and two fighters were lost in the Allied air action.

Allied forces push through Luzon as American troops secure Manila finance district and clear Japanese holdouts. New landings on Ticac and Burias seal strategic gains, while U.S. divisions defend against counterattacks in the Cordillera area and raids target Formosa airfields.
Front line reports say Seventh Army moved toward Pruem Trier area and cleared Forbach while penetrating toward Stiring-Wendel. Ninth, First and Third Armies totaled over 60,000 prisoners. Canadians pressed toward Wesel and Rheinberg, and Cologne remained the major German target as Allied artillery pounded Ruhr facilities and rail hubs.

The Houston District Scout committee will meet at 7 30 this evening at the Lions Club Scout cabin on Edgewood Drive. Scout Executive J Cooke announced the district meeting includes a Court of Honor where Joe Wilson Troop 38 earns second class and David Peterman Troop 22 earns first class along with Charles Lewis Billy Gregory Wallace Harrison Palmer Brooks all from Troops 22 48 23. Star Wallace Harrison Billy Gregory Sam Meeks and Billy Norris earn merit badges.
Representatives of about 600,000 CIO members push in a New York meeting for President Roosevelt to declare an emergency and seize the mines as in 1943. They fault Lewis for a supposed stake plot against the nation while Lewis in Washington declines comment. Key demands include a 10 cent per ton royalty to the UMWA on all bituminous coal and a return to a 40 hour basic week with overtime after 40 hours.
The regular County Court session began today with Judge S P Poyner presiding. Morning proceedings pressed several causes and continued a number of others. Of M cases, six charged violation of the prohibition law and nine involved highway rules including reckless driving leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated. Several cases were set to be tried this afternoon.
The recruiting office for the Hospital Corps Women Army Corps will stay open at the post office in Dothan for two more weeks. Lieut Kermit G. Crook leads the effort. Sgt Barr and Cpl Clark urge interested women to visit the office and discuss enlistment benefits. Women may choose their General Hospital assignment.

Sergeant Willam J Floyd has returned to the States after 11 months in the European Theater of Operations. He served in the Medical Department of the Air Corps and is married to Mrs Mary L Floyd of 302 East Newton Street.
Lieut Col Joseph Lo Stewart of Newton has been awarded the Legion of Merit for his command role and outstanding service during the planning phase and seizure of the energyfield islands. His parents resided in Montgomery and he was educated at Abhams Polyweebruc Insure before being commissioned in 1957.
