A musical program featured Betty Seymour from piano Muss LeMerle Penn and a chorus including Bates Bowers Dr Dan McCarty Paul Gamble Bill Beck and Tred Brookins. Prizes went to Elba Lions for travel miles and to the Tages ticket holder. A dance at the Country Club followed with music by We Southernatres.
Last night unions reported strikes at the Dodge main plant and 3000 workers at the Chrysler Corporation sites halted production of B-29 engines anti aircraft guns and rockets. At Mack Avenue Bees Manufacturing Co and Briggs plants 5800 workers walked out shutting air craft parts and tank assembly lines. The mass meeting of 3000 Dodge strikers rejected a two thirds majority truce that would resume work if eight fired workers were reinstated. New Orleans cotton prices also noted with futures showing declines across March through December contracts.
In the February 4 H club contest Ashford and Webb elementary clubs tied for first place honors. Miss Mary Lou Thompson announced. The three production phases Wartime Food Production poultry home dairying and home gardens inspired posters and drawings to show the goal for 1945. Paris Hickman and Sue Barber of Ashford and Madeline Andrews and Winnie Jean Williams of Webb were team demonstrators. George W. Whitaker Red Cross field director, returning after 15 months overseas service, spoke at the Dothan Lions Club noon meeting. He described overseas experiences and Red Cross work, accompanied by Miss New Jewell Howze, Mrs. Lawrence Oakley, and Clyde Levern. Captain Bob Howard, on leave from the China Burma India theater, endorsed Whitaker's remarks. J. W. Saldemyre was introduced as a new member.
