Police report a fatal shooting at 706 Bay Store area with Gracie Cummings killed by Coleman using a .22 caliber rifle. Witness Lome Acker, a Black man, says he was in a room when shots rang out, with 14 spent shells found, and Cummings fleeing into adjoining rooms as the assailant fired from outside.
Robert Theo Senn transfer business operator of Dothan died at hospital this morning after a long illness. He operated the business for 30 years and was a WWI veteran. Survived by widow Mary Sonn and two brothers Cooper Jenn of Lake Worth, Fla. Funeral at his residence 718 South Appleiree Tuesday 2 pm with Dr. W. F. Calhoun officiating. Burial in City Cemetery. Ward-Wilton in charge. pallbearers listed. honorary pallbearers named.
The Houston County Red Cross fund campaign opened at a breakfast in the Houston Hotel with Charles Chapman chairing the effort. Dr A E Shaler urged citizen support as canvassing began. Residential committee led by Mrs P B McLaughlin and Miss Lou Farmer started door to door work. Daily progress reports were planned on Dothan radio stations WDIG WOOP and WAGE with further speakers scheduled.
The Eagle announces it will stop publishing radio program listings due to increased station numbers and rising paper costs. Radio stations may use the newspaper’s columns for listings and promotions at regular advertising rates as the industry becomes self-sustaining.
Six persons dead on Alabama highways over the weekend with at least ten injured. Three Birmingham high school girls died in a Sunday bus collision near Chilton-Geneva on the Birmingham-Sylacauga route. A 17 year old was fatally injured when the car she rode in overturned on Rocky Ridge road. Two Castleberry girls, 11 and 12, were killed when struck by an automobile while walking along the highway Saturday night. Police identified the victims as Arthur Frederick Salley Mes Julia Joy Sprague and Miss Jr Jo York.
President Truman said presidential election year politics are harming government in domestic and foreign affairs. He spoke at his first news conference in over two weeks, blaming partisan politics for slowing housing legislation and complicating foreign policy while urging bipartisan cooperation. He avoided naming individuals and declined to discuss reelection plans.
Washington announces new government controls on American goods sent to Europe. Licenses required for all shipments over 100 in value, with scarce items allotted by price. Policy aims to aid Western Europe and limit exports to Eastern Europe under Russia.

In Gravilands near Rochester Michigan a fundraiser for a new fire truck turned tragic as a house fire claimed four Garvey children aged 8, 7, 4, and 1 Susan. Lawrence Garvey Jr. 13 tried to save them but the blaze trapped the family. Neighbors and a volunteer fire department responded with efforts hampered by a lack of water.
Cleveland bank robbers target Romancin Savings and Loan official John Harris and Santa Phillip, 38, taking $2,000 from a Cleveland Trust Bank branch. A pursuit ends with a vehicle block and glass shattering as robbers flee in a staged escape, leaving officers to pursue the money and suspects.
Senator Vandenberg of Michigan urged the Senate to back the European Recovery Program the Marshall Plan to save eastern Europe from economic chaos and avert a new world war.
