Plan of electing Legion officers change proposed at meet

Talladega June 20 AP Richard B Kelly Jr of Talladega announced an amendment to the Alabama American Legion constitution to switch state officer elections to secret ballot. Nominations would occur on the first convention day, ballots on the second, with runoffs by the final day if needed. District representatives would vote separately and results certified immediately after counting. Polls open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the convention hall.

Third of Woodlands In State Are Owned By Alabama Farmers

Montgomery July 30 AP Approximately one third of Alabama woodlands are owned by farmers, says Col Bunker state forester. He cites figures from the State agricultural department noting about 7,000,000 acres of woodlands statewide total around 22,500 acres. Farmers’ forest lands provide income from posts poles piling and croppings when markets sag.
