Lieutenant J S Clark of the U S Navy recruiting in Alabama called Dothan one of the cleanest looking clues he had seen. He toured the city with George C Lott, inspected sub-stations at Mobile and Pensacola and returned to Birmingham.

Thomasville to Host 1982 Georgia Alabama Singing

Thomasville Georgia was chosen as the site for the 1982 Georgia Alabama singing convition at First Methodist church. The event on a Sunday in July is expected to draw crowds from south Georgia southeast Alabama and north Florida with James W Evans of Thomasville as general chairman arranging the program.

Cottonwood Child Dies in Dothan Hospital

Almaree Deese a three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter G Deese of Cottonwood died in a Dothan hospital Tuesday after a short illness. Funeral was held at Cottonwood Baptist Church at 10 a m today with Rev Lasseter officiating burial in Cottonwood Cemetery by Fellows and Forrester.

Julian Parker a 16 year old was fatally wounded by a shotgun blast in Youngstown Florida yesterday afternoon. Ben Worthington 24 of Youngstown is jailed in Panama City though no charges have been filed. Sheriff Hobbs said investigation ongoing and few details available. Parker was son of Luther Parker a local farmer.

Mobile, June 29 AP Excluding payments for permanent improvements the city of Mobile operated at a profit of 27140 during 1931 A financial statement on the city's operation for 1981 shows receipts of 2527440 and payments of 2503300 excluding permanent improvements Including permanent improvements receipts were 1119309 short The total funded or fixed debt outstanding Sept 30 1981 was 7124184 of which 2109800 was for public service enterprises Mobile's assessed valuation for tax purposes was 65794092 The levy for all purposes was 2365966 with 723734 for the city 592146 for the schools 427661 for the state and 822425 for the county The per capita tax levy is 37 30 based on a population of 58900 These statistics were compiled by H G Zeigler city comptroller.

Man jailed in shooting freed on bond after fatal incident

Ingram a traveling salesman arrested on a charge of murder in the shooting of 16 year old Aubrey Cochran near his North St Andrews Street home. Cochran died hours later after a struggle over gasoline siphoned from Ingram s car. Floyd Brown companion of Cochran released on bond. Cochran s funeral held at Bethel church with burial in the church cemetery. Ingram waived preliminary hearing. bond set and hearing scheduled.

National Guards to Louisiana for encampment

An advance detachment of 39 men from the 117th Field Artillery Alabama National Guard under Conteln Z. J. Buntin left Dothan for Camp Beauregard Louisiana for an encampment. Units totaling 41 medical detachments and five officers will follow for a 16 day training period. Other Southeast Alabama guardsmen also head to camp this week via route through Dothan toward Alexandria Louisiana.

Large Crowd Hears Band Concert Last One Until August

A large crowd gathered on the courthouse lawn to hear the UTth Field Artillery band perform last night. About 200 people listened as officers and autos filled the area. The concert marked the last performance until August before the band heads to Camp Beauregard, Louisiana, for annual training. The 17th Field Artillery Band, a prominent National Guard unit in the South, featured Poyner as director and consisted of 41 members.

Former Dothan Man Elected Judge in Duval County Florida

A former Dothan man named Witvum Boren of Mt Porter Dothan received a plurality of about 200 votes to defeat incumbent judge B Peeler in Duval County Florida. Porter trailed by roughly 1.70 percent in the first count before final tallies. The elected official will serve an eight year term beginning soon.
