Seventh Candidate Enters City Race Amid Petition Confusion
A seventh hopeful, S. M. Bentley, pressed to join the city commission race as petitions circulated Friday. Bentley argues the deadline is Thursday midnight, while officials say Friday midnight. Mayor Ezel was away, delaying deadline ruling. J B Hert also entered the limelight but may not seek a seat. If Bentley misses the ballot, six others are already qualified. The Committee for Commission Government announced a plan for a city manager and reduced salaries, but the proposal faced objections and a local bill is being prepared for a manager with statewide applicability.
