Liberator bombers flew 2,000 over water to strike targets in Ped Celebes and Java area. The daylight raid hit a cruiser and cargo ship near dock. one bomber crashed after interception by a Japanese fighter. No further details available.

London AP reports British bombers unloaded more than 15,000 tons of bombs on Germany in the past month. About two thirds struck Ruhr industrial centers including Dortmund Essen and Bochum. Currently Selma Mobile Birmingham Montgomery and Gadsden police radio systems handle patrol messages but the patrol lacks its own system.
The House Agriculture Committee approved a bill to appoint a War Food Administrator with exclusive power over food production, distribution, pricing, and rationing, removing OPA authority. Chester Davin would oversee provisions including production allocation, storage, export, import, labor, and price setting. The measure gained 48 to 6 committee support, with Democratic opposition from high officials and broad GOP backing.
Washington AP reported a staff of poison gas spotters has been recruited to collect samples in case of an enemy attack and rapidly send them to labs for quick identification. James M.
