In Miami a South Carolina grandmother, Mrs. W H H Gay of Kershaw, seeks custody of Peggy Russell and John Russell’s bodies after their father is accused of bludgeoning them to death. Police say John Russell killed his two children with a baseball bat and shot two neighbors. Mrs. Gay aims funeral arrangements. Four warrants, including first degree murder, were filed against the suspect. a hearing was tentatively scheduled for Monday.

Lt Luther E Brown Assigned To Alabama ROTC Staff
First Lt. Luther E Brown of Dothan has been assigned by the War Department to the University of Alabama ROTC staff as an artillery instructor. An honor graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute Auburn he received a direct commission in 1944 and served as forward observer in combat through four major campaigns with the Sixth Armored Division in Europe. He remained in Germany after V E Day with the Army of Occupation before returning in May for duty in the United States. Brown earned awards including the Silver Star Bronze Star Purple Heart and Air Medal and was commended by the Sixth Armored Division CG for merit in enemy actions. In a separate note under North Carolina law a child under 15 must be turned over to juvenile authorities. Mrs Weaver died shortly after she cried Johnny youve shot me.
