British miners laid the foundation stone for the new Lidice in Czechoslovakia five years after Gestapo troops erased the old village. Girl Scout Day Camp Registration Update

Fmeraenty Maternity Program Ends July 1

The Government's Emergency Maternity and Infant Care Program ends July 1, 1847, with eligibility preserved for those approved by the deadline. Applications received after July 1 may still be approved if eligible by June 30, and care can be provided for eligible infants up to age one. The EMIC program, active since June 1943, has authorized care for 21,578 infants through May 1947.

Miss Emily Semple Dies At Montgomery

Miss Emily Jiasnes Semple 71 member of an old Montgomery family died in St Marygar ts Hospital after an extended illness. She was great granddaughter of Ger Joohon By Seat founder of Montgomery and a member of the Catholic Church Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy. Livestock arrivals at eight plants across several states

Livestock arrivals at eight major packing plants in Georgia Florida Alabama and Tennessee totaled 300 cattle 100 calves and 600 hogs. Hog market remained active and steady with medium to heavy hogs chiefly 23 to 24.25 per cwt and assorted lots up to 23.90. Slaughter cattle and stockers showed strength versus last week with varied prices for steers heifers cows and calves. calves 200 plus mostly 21 to 24 per cwt and other classes following regional quotes. Estimated salable receipts include 700 cattle and 200 calves with trade active to strong for slaughter steers and heifers and steady to strong for hogs.

City Firemen Answer Three Weekend Calls

Weekend calls stretched City Fire Department as three incidents occurred Sunday. An overheated refrigerator sparked a fire at 407 North Bart Street causing property damage but no injuries. A second fire at a Dusy Street apartment, attended by Doon Paeereen, prompted cooling and investigation after a malfunctioning heater.

High Court Refuses Second Time To Hear Curley Case

The Supreme Court refused for the second time to review Boston Mayor James M. Curley’s mail fraud conviction. Curley, 72, faced a six to eighteen month sentence and was reported ill in a Scituate hospital with hypertension induced by arteriosclerosis. The June 2 ruling left Justice Murphy opposed. Frankfurter did not participate in the second review. The case stemmed from Engineers Group Inc. war time contracts with about $60,000 improper gains. Curley also faced a $1,000 fine.

CWO Godwin Arrives in Panama From New Orleans

Chief Warrant Officer Albert S. Godwin of Dothan has arrived at the Panama Canal Department aboard the Sto Mihhiel from New Orleans. He is assigned to the hospital in the Canal Zone and is on his second Panama tour after service in Europe where he earned the Bronze Star. His wife and son reside in Dothan.

Rabid Fox Found in County Again

A fourth positive rabies test was reported at the Dothan Branch Laboratory last week. The infected animal was a fox named by director Mrs Ann Cooper. It was killed by W W Long of Dothan Route One after spotting the fox near a chicken lot. no bites to people or animals were reported.
