Moonshining outfit found hidden under arbor near Ashford

Sheriff Rollins seized a 70 gallon copper whisky still hidden in an arbor at a field rented by J. T. Suggs. A. T. Suggs was jailed for manufacturing liquor as officers destroyed over 100 gallons of beer and a half gallon of rum. John Richardson fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Over 10 000 Baby Chicks Given Flood Sufferers

In Enterprise Alabama the state agriculture department has distributed 10 938 baby chicks to flood victims in Elba. Miss Allyer Hughes and W M Ray oversaw the distribution, which started after 3000 chicks arrived Saturday night. Hatcheries across the United States supplied the chicks, with the Alabama Farm Bureau Federation contributing 50 pounds of feed per 100 chicks.

Black Suspect Arrested In Knife Slashing Incident

James Moore slashed Morris Mathis with a knife on June 6 injuring him seriously. Sheriff Rollins captured Moore yesterday and jailed him on a charge of assault with intent to seriously harm.

Bay Line Train Searched for Rum by Local Sheriff

A Panama City Kiwanis group on a Bay Line passenger train was stopped at Madrid by Sheriff Rollins deputy and searched for contraband. A gallon jug of alleged liquor was found, and 18 men and 11 women were arrested as the party headed to Dothan. Later court actions led to bonds and release, with the incident revealed as a joke.

Robert Schultz Jr. was riding when a bicycle wheel locked late yesterday afternoon. He was thrown to the pavement and severely injured with a badly lacerated face and skin torn from the forehead. He remained unconscious for several minutes but is now out of immediate danger.

Alleged Rum Runner Arrested By Sheriff

Harvey Willkins, indicted in February for transporting 15 gallons of liquor, was arrested by Sheriff Pollins at Kinsey yesterday and remanded to the county jail. He reportedly fled on foot into the woods after jumping from the hauling car and had been a fugitive.

Enterprise Boys To Military Camp

Seven Enterprise boys left for Fort Paransas near Pensacola Florida to spend a month at the Citizens Military Training Camp conducted by the government. The building program for the Legion home was approved with landscape plans by Charles Yunck, including memorial trees. The luncheon honored Houston County May or Confederate veterans.
