Notice of Bill for Athena Rivers Relief in Alabama Legislature

A forthcoming July Alabama legislature meeting will consider a relief bill for Athena Rivers, colored, for overtime served in the Alabama state penitentiary. Rivers was wrongfully sentenced from Henry County Circuit Court in Columbia on July 14 1898 for Attempt to murder by poison. Clerical error labeled her term as 20 years, causing about 2 years of extra service until her death May 31 1907. Also note Miss Elsie Ham began stenography at Dothan Business College this week.
