Attempted 2 Escapes Highlight Kilby Montgomery Case

Johnny Greek of Mobile, at large after sawing free from Mobile county jail, figures in two escape attempts from Kilby Prison. He and accomplices Zema Conway and Olin Rayburn were held on robbery charges. Conway was wounded and captured while trying to spring Greek at the gravel pit. Greek had earlier fled the prison farm but was recaptured within hours with bloodhounds guiding authorities. Police call the 23 year old Mobile youth “Mobile's Bad Boy” after numerous prior charges.

Defiance Ohio June 13 An apparently crazed man who in two weeks attacked five women with a pistol and knife remained at large. His latest victim Rosemary Mansfield 16 daughter of Attorney Victor L Mansfield was wounded in the back while walking with sister Kathryn Mansfield 15 and Julia Rex 16. The assailant crept up behind her struck her and fled a scene identical to prior attacks on four others.

The Norwegian freighter Knut Hamsun laden with Chilean nitrate burned and sank after a sudden fire. In Alabama the unofficial primary returns show Bibb Graves leading Frank M. Dixon for the Democratic nomination. Graves has 151,008 votes to Dixon 131,270 with only 62 boxes missing.
