A wind and rain storm battered Fayetteville on June 11, destroying ten houses and uprooting trees. Most damage occurred near the fairgrounds district, as 2.21 inches of rain fell in under 30 minutes, flooding streams and disrupting traffic. No injuries were reported.

A movement to close all Dothan stores one afternoon each week in summer was dropped after merchants could not agree on which afternoon or hours. Claude T. Cotton, attorney, said petitions were presented to local businesses. Several firms refused to close while others objected to the proposed hours. For years the custom has been to close one afternoon weekly.

Mobile Man Believed Drowned Found Alive By Plane

George Cochrane a 27-year-old Princeton graduate reported drowned when his dory overturned off Pelican Island was found alive on the south end of Dauphin Island by a Pensacola seaplane. Thompson a 32-year-old Gulf Mobile and Northern Railroad secretary remained missing as the search continued. Hunter the yacht owner and companions had been aboard off Pelican Island when the accident occurred and Cochrane was vacationing here before returning to New York.

Red Cross Sends Joe Riley to Brevard Camp for Swimming Course

Dothan High standout Joe Riley, a top Alabama football prospect, will attend a ten day training course at the National Swimming Association camp in Brevard North Carolina, arranged by the Houston County Red Cross Bureau. Two Men Injured In Auto Mishaps

Victims of automobile accidents A. P. Byrd 22 of Marianna Florida and G. L. Singletary 24 of Blakely were hospitalized. Byrd’s car overturned three times Saturday night causing a severe back injury and minor bruises. Singletary suffered a broken leg and numerous lacerations from an earlier Georgia accident. Neither injury is listed as serious.

Fire destroys Headland avenue dwelling in suspected arson

A fire consumed a House on Headland Avenue owned by the estate of Mrs. Effie Williams and occupied by a family. Firemen called the blaze incendiary and plans for an inventory were delayed as none of the occupants were home. Furnishings were destroyed and the extent of damage was pending evaluation.

An Edinburgh report by a Church of Scotland committee concludes Scotland is becoming less Scottish in blood tradition and religious attachment. It cites concerns over growth of Roman Catholicism driven by Irish immigration, noting Catholics rose to two in every 15 residents in 1921 from one in 30 in 1821.

Plane Buried Inside New York Mountain Crash Scene

Dixon Clubs Enroll 12,000 Young Men Statewide in Alabama

Birmingham June 11 Special The Dixon-for-Governor movement reports sixty nine Young Men's Dixon clubs with over 12,096 members operating in 47 Alabama counties. Albert Boutwell says the groups formed in seven weeks and grew rapidly, uniting in support of Major Dixon against old political rings. Dr J S Tucker chairs the Bible Club with 200 members.
