Census figures show 4712 Houston farms in county

A district census supervisor announced Houston County counts for 1920. The preliminary total lists 45,920 people and 4712 farms in the county, with Queen City Dothan at 15,471. Rechecks in two Dothan wards occurred after complaints of missing entries.

New York June 10 Rear Admiral Richard E Byrd returns on June 19 amid cheers and fame yet faces a rare lull in exploration. North Alabama Democratic Meet Set for June 17

Byrd Survives Dangers Missed in Early Flying Career

Top Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd faced many hazards but avoided disaster in key naval dirigible tests. In 1919 he served as navigator on a Atlantic bound craft wrecked without his presence. In 1921 he helped with the R-2 mission wrecked on test flight, not aboard. In 1924 he joined Shenandoah polar flight plans, which were cut short by a cyclone wreck over Ohio with heavy casualties.
