Gold Genius, a chestnut gelding owned and ridden by Mise Camille Williams of Columbus, Ga., captured the five gaited championship at the second annual Dothan Lions horse show in Wiregrass Stadium. The event drew riders from Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama, with 70 riders and over 100 top horses competing for 3,200 in cash prizes, ribbons and trophies to aid the Light Conservation Fund of the Dothan Lions Club for the blind in Houston County. Nancy Lee, a dark bay mare from Albany, Georgia, ridden by Desmond Shenmell Jr., won the walking horse division, while EP. Walla of Selma won the roadster to bike class. Turn To No. 16 On Page 2.

Shrine Ceremonial To Bring 2000 Here From Three States
Some 2000 Shriners from Alabama Florida and Georgia are expected June 1 for the first Shrine Ceremonial in Douing since 1922. Sponsored by the Wiregrass Shrine Club the event will be staged by the Alcazar Temple of Montgomery. Activities include a parade starting at 1 pm and ending at City Hall with a barbecue at Porter's Fairyland and a dance at the Armory. Registration opens 8 am at the Masonic Temple with open house 10 am to 2 pm at the Houston Hotel. Preparations are led by J B Davis president of the Wiregrass club and decoration of the city begins by Wednesday.

Wife charges mate with murder intent in county court
Mrs Melet Dean Jeffcoat filed complaints in county court accusing Arthur Jeffcoat of assault with intent to murder and breach of the peace after he shot his wife twice with a rifle during an argument at their home near Gordon.
