Two Years Custody Given In Draft Case

Federal Judge Charles B. Kenver today sentenced Talmadege Todd of Coffee County to two years in the custody of the attorney general for failing to report for Induction. Todd pleaded not guilty as a jury returned a directed verdict of guilty. He claimed to be an ordained minister of Jehovah's Witnesses and had signed a statement refusing to serve in the Army as a conscientious objector.

Mrs J E Woodham Succumbs At Chipley

Mrs J E Woodham, ninety, of 300 1-2 South Oates street, died Monday at her son R E Woodham’s home in Chipley Florida after several weeks illness. She was a Bree Will Baptist Church member. Funeral services Tuesday at 2 30 p m at Kingey Baptist Church with Rev Bam Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Kingey cemetery, Ward Wilson directing. Survived by two daughters Mrs J Smith of Do Than and Mrs Kirkland of Lynn Haven, four sons J C Woodham of Cottonwood, W T Woodham of Mothan, R E Woodham of Chipley, Ed Woodham of Dothan, a sister Mrs Nancy Scarbrough of Newton, Alabama, and thirty grandchildren.

Dothan Churches Hold Invasion Prayer Services

Dewan residents were urged to pray for soldiers as invasion began. Mary J Little Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Mary Jane Little, eighty seven, died early today at her grandson Fred Little’s home on West Adams Street after a long illness. Short services were held at Ward-Wilson chapel with funeral services planned in Balma tomorrow. Surviving are four grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, plus three forest grandchildren.

State Stores Here Closed For D Day Observance

The two state liquor outlets in Dothan closed today along with other Alabama stores by order from Governor Chauncey Sparks honoring the start of Europe’s liberation. ABC officials in Dothan said Montgomery notified them no liquor shipments would be sent from the state warehouse today. Supply deliveries arrive each Tuesday.
