Alabama primary yields small governor race figures

The Governor primary drew a smaller tally than expected with indications that final results may fall below 200000. Over 365000 ballots were cast across counties where Negroes voted in many counties for years, following a court ruling that no one can be barred from the polls because of color. Senatorial race drew no racial issue though Rep Boykin opposed the Father Employment Practices Committee. Sparkman and Boykin campaigned, Meadows was nominated for State Superintendent without opposition, Panell had been named but died before taking office.

Retail ceilings rose about eight percent on outerwear. Three-member board sworn in to organize under Rev L Thompson as chair. Capitol Hill approved a $26.09 million OPA supplemental appropriation after Congress had provided $75 million total. The Senate has yet to act on the supplementary fund.
