British Dirigible R-100 Speeds Across North Atlantic

The British airship R-100 rode favorable weather across the North Atlantic, surpassing 1 000 miles of its 3 400 mile voyage to Montreal. Leaving Cardington Tuesday, it averaged above 50 mph in over 30 hours aloft, with contact from several liners and a sighting by the Ausonia at mid Atlantic. The air ministry asked the AP to continue the report on page eight.

Judge A Rollins Dies After Illness in Dothan

Former teacher and local official Alexander Rollins aged 75 died at his home 404 East Crawford Street after several months of illness. Survived by wife Mattie five sons and eight daughters, funeral at 5 pm from the home with Rev. H M Andrews officiating. Interment in city cemetery. Houston Funeral Co. in charge.

Buried treasure hunt ends in fatal cave blast

Wilson Nunley, 78, died in an explosion after dynamite failed to discharge in a cave on FE Garrett’s farm near Lafayette Tennessee. Accompanied by Garrett, Nunley had entered the cave in search of a gold cache after a fortune teller’s tip. Four daughters survive him.

Talladega to Be 1931 Convention Site of Legion

Rufus Bethea of Birmingham was elected Alabama department commander at the 1930 convention in Montgomery and Talladega was chosen as the 1931 meeting site. Bethea defeated Everett Jackson of Montgomery. Mrs. H. E. McClung was re-elected Legion auxiliary president along with other officers and district vice commanders. Farm star Marion Talley runs 1000 acre harvest near Colby Kansas

Marion Talley, former opera diva now managing a 1600 acre Kansas farm, oversees 1000 acres of wheat with 450 more in barley and corn. Gas blast kills three in Fairport home

In Fairport New York a gas explosion and fire in a four family house left three dead and ten injured. Disturbed gas pipes from excavation work sparked the blast as workers claimed to have damaged a water main and began digging to the opposite side of the street. An investigation was launched.

Alabama Toll From Accidents Rises to Six

The week's accident toll in Alabama rose to six with four additional deaths reported from various cities. An unidentified man, about 30, was killed by a train at Magella. Mildred Brett, 19, of Sylacauga, died when a locomotive struck the car she rode in with her mother and three other children. Aubrey Robertson, a University of Alabama student from Romulus, died from injuries in a Monday automobile crash. Funeral services were held for Hubert L. Thomas in Birmingham after his electrocution earlier in the week.

Man confesses killing state senator Dennis

Governor Richards said M. L. Thornley of Moncks Corner confessed to shooting State Senator E. J. Dennis last Thursday after being hired by a Berkeley County citizen who promised everything. Three Berkeley County men were arrested under heavy guard, with Glenn D. McKnight sought as a fourth.

Woman badly hurt by hit run auto in Ashford

Mrs. Ethel Woods a 30 year old Ashford widow was severely injured when a hit and run driver struck her while crossing East Main Street at St Andrews Street. Police stated witnesses described two men and a Ford roadster. lookout orders sent to Ashford Columbia and nearby towns.

Three Year Old Hit by Auto In Front of Home

Adell Shute twenty three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Shute suffered slight injuries when a car driven by R M Mc Dowell of Shamrock struck her as she darted into the street near 806 South Appletree street about 10 this morning. The child was kept at the hospital for treatment and initial fears of serious harm proved unfounded.

Greater St. Louis Endurance Plane Starts Tenth Day

Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine continued the endurance flight over Lambert Field at 7 11 A M starting the tenth day. They had logged 218 hours aloft with a stiff breeze keeping the Hers near 5000 feet SSW as the craft rode bumpy conditions.
