Head Promoted to Major in Fifth Air Force

Willie Crester Head Jr of Ozark was promoted to Major in the Fifth Air Force in New Guinea. A Troy State Teachers College graduate and former Plantersville High principal, he enlisted as an aviation cadet in 1941, earned his wings in 1942, and has served overseas for about a year, participating in Papuan and New Guinea campaigns. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with oak leaf cluster for meritorious conduct.

Panama City Soldier Reported POW in Germany

George Logue Jr. of Panama City, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Logue and nephew of W. B. Logue of Dothan, is listed as a prisoner of war in Germany. A turret gunner in the Army for Forces, he was previously reported missing after a raid on Europe about 27 days ago. The adjutant general informed his parents via Red Cross that he is safe but a prisoner.

Howell L Broxton Promoted In Rank

Howell L Broxton has been promoted to First Lieutenant at the Eighth RAF Fighter Station England. He is a former Alabama National Guard member and a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot who trained at Carlstrom and Cochran Fields and received wings at Mannan Army Air Base. He named his P-47 Elsie after his wife Elsie Margaret Broxton of 107 South Alice Street.
