Alabama reforms eyed in Brookings report on agriculture
The Brookings Institution urges a full overhaul of Alabama state government grouping the agriculture department into a new department of labor and industry and creating a department of business regulation. It recommends appointive governance for the agriculture post and abolition of executive boards with a single combined bureau for mines and firesafety oversight. The plan shifts enforcement of game and fisheries laws under a streamlined system and consolidates several independent agencies into a department of business regulation to improve efficiency.
