Jury Frees Negro At Second Trial On Murder Charge
A Houston circuit court jury acquitted Washington Palmore, a Black man, of the fatal shooting of Curtis Warren, an automobile dealer from Donalsonville, on May 19, 1942, east of Dothan. The jury deliberated about an hour and a half after a first ballot showed ten to two for acquittal. Palmore had been in custody since July 20, 1941, after being charged with first degree murder. he had previously been convicted in circuit court on August 12, 1842, and given a life sentence.
