Local shoppers flood streets as stores report strong Saturday trade
Number 12 cleared streets of dust and mast shoppers during the morning hours. Steady streams of buyers filed in and out of stores right up to the closing time last night, keeping cash registers ringing and clerks busy. No estimate of the day's receipts was available, but several merchants said they believed the totals would be greater than usual for a Saturday. Especially heavy was the volume of business in the food stores where some retailers reported recent large deliveries from wholesalers. Black pepper and jama and jel fies were seen on some shelves for the first time in weeks. But meats still seemed to hold chief interest for the food buyers. Since the City's meat famine ended a week ago, most butchers have had ample supplies.
