Eight Killed When Express Goes Into Creek

Denver report says a Rock Island westbound passenger train from Chicago plunged through a weakened bridge into Landsman Creek near Stratton California. Eight killed and over twenty injured as flood waters hampered rescue. about 500 passengers were asleep in berths when the locomotive baggage car and two coaches entered the creek. One Pullman carried Birmingham passengers.

Sec Davis May Act As Arbitrator In Street Car Strike

Secretary Davis said he had been asked by New Orleans street car workers to act as arbitrator in their strike and would agree to serve if the company joined the request.

One Case Tried Rest Continued By Baxley

In the court of common pleas yesterday Judge Baxley tried all cases except one. All continued were minor civil cases while the sole criminal case resulted in an acquittal. Ed Henry, a Black man, was released after a breach of the peace warrant by his wife who later did not appear in court.

Three Negroes Charged With Grand Larceny Released On Bond

Sallie Mae Crawford Lily Mae Monk and Willie Crawford were turned over to the sheriff after police charged them with grand larceny in connection with the theft of 342 from Minge Pollock. They were released on bond of 250 dollars each. Pollock says he slept and woke to find the money missing and suspects the three knew the amount. Rhae Larkspur has won 220,909 pounds in purses, a rare figure in American racing.
