German Plan Shows Defiance and Friendship
Germany pursues a friendlier foreign policy while warning that it will fight for liberty as Hess, Hitler’s lieutenant, tells 12 000 Nazi chiefs in Keilingsberg that a defenceless Germany endangers sovereignty. He seeks Franco German understanding and minimal army for security, amid concerns over a second Nazi revolution and Barthou’s security talks in London. Hitler remains in seclusion at his Bavarian Alps retreat as Germany confronts internal upheaval and external pressure.
