Fourteen Cases Tried In Common Pleas Court
In the criminal division before Judge Lawrence Oakley fourteen cases were tried today, most charges for vagrancy and public drunkenness. One assault case was continued. All but one defendant were Negro. Six pleas of public drunkenness earned five dollar fines or ten days in jail. One case was continued, another appealed on $100 bond after a guilty verdict. Two Negro women pleaded guilty to vagrancy and received ten dollar fines, with thirty days in jail or ten days with hard labor to pay. One vagrancy case was not prosecuted. A guilty plea defendant earned five dollars or ten days on a similar charge. Eighteen cases were on the docket.
