Dothan to play Ozark in holiday Dixie game

Dothan meets Ozark in the second game of a Fourth of July doubleheader at three this afternoon after the league reorganized scheduling following Eufaula reentry. Dothan manager Paul Tubb plans Lefty Rogers to start, with Legrant Stott making a farewell before joining the Birmingham Barons.

Marland Anglin Lead in Oklahoma Democratic Gubernatorial Race

In Oklahoma City on July 4 AP report says Ernest W. Marland once an oil magnate and Tom Anglin backed by Gov. Murray led the Democratic nomination race for governor. With over a third of precincts counted Marland held a roughly 30,000 vote edge over Anglin as the contest narrows.

Tigers Halt Indians 7 2 Behind Hamlin Six Hits

Former Head of West Point Academy Passes

Maj. General Merch Bradt Stewart 60, retired superintendent of the United States Military Academy, died in St Augustine Florida on July 4. A prominent clubman in New York and Washington, he authored several military works and earned decorations including the Croix de Guerre with Palms and the DSM. He served with American forces in the Spanish American, Philippine and World Wars and once served on the staff of the St Augustine Record. Survived by a son Peter and his widow.

State awaits cows from drought area

Montgomery July 4 AP The Alabama Relief Administration awaits the first shipment of cattle from the drought area. The initial 2,200 yearlings will be distributed for pasturage in Montgomery Bullock and Butler counties to be fattened then butchered and canned for needy families or relief this winter. Further shipments will follow at four day intervals until 10,000 cattle enter the state. Later dairy cows will also be shipped but not enter commercial channels.

Change in wind saves village hit by fire

A sudden shift in wind spared a lakeside village near Chester California from a major fire. At the blaze’s peak four businesses and several homes burned, but wind died and firefighters halted spread. Damage was estimated at 50000 dollars.

Woman Leaps From Hotel Two Stories to Death

A woman identified as Ethel Johnson also known as Ethel Mitchell leaped from a hotel room two stories above the street in Los Angeles on July 4. She suffered a skull fracture and may not have died. Police said she had recently arrived from New Orleans where her address was 2777 Jonquil Street.
